« Why "Salt, Sugar, Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us" by Michael Moss is a Must-read | Main | Long-fermented Bread & why you should eat it »

I just found you via bon appetit, and I love what you did. I grew up on food stamps and we ate crap. Not that my mom was a bad mom, she just didn't know how to feed us better with our limited resources.

I set out on a challenge a few years ago to learn how to make my own home a different type of place without spending a lot, because really, when you grow up with very little you are reluctant to start spending a lot of fluff. Every rule you listed in the article is what I have learned. Most recently was the little 'o' one... I never had a cute name for it, but I just explained to my friends who are organic-only that I am more than OK with purchasing from farmers who don't have the label but have the practices. Thank you for what you did to help open eyes up to the possibility of healthy eating when there is access to fresh food.

(Of course, I realize food deserts are a different story, but there are a lot of people of food stamps that do have access to markets/etc. but don't know how to maximize that benefit.)

Love the food ideas above. Great work!

Thank-you, Tiffany! I'm glad you found a way to eat healthily on a budget, too. It takes some planning and ingenuity, but as you say--if you don't live in a food desert--it's entirely possible to do.

I have been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be much more useful than ever before.
